Accessibility Statement

Our commitment to accessible, inclusive design for all users of the Babiha platform.

Conformance Status

Babiha targets conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. We are partially conformant, meaning that some content does not yet fully meet all success criteria. We are actively working to address known gaps and improve conformance across all areas of the platform.

Testing Methodology

Accessibility is tested using a combination of automated and manual methods:

  • axe-core — automated rule-based accessibility checks: component-level jest-axe assertions run in our CI pipeline, complemented by on-demand full-page axe scans
  • eslint-plugin-jsx-a11y — static analysis of JSX for common accessibility issues during development
  • Keyboard testing — manual verification of full keyboard operability, focus order, and visible focus indicators across all interactive components
  • NVDA screen reader — manual testing with NVDA on Windows/Chrome to validate semantic structure, ARIA roles, and announced content

Known Limitations

The following areas have known accessibility limitations that we are working to remediate:

  • Schedule drag-and-drop — The drag-and-drop scheduling interface currently lacks full keyboard and screen reader support. A keyboard-accessible alternative is planned.
  • Map views — Interactive maps (used for carer location and geofencing) do not yet provide equivalent non-visual access. A text-based fallback list is available in most contexts.
  • Rich text editor — The Tiptap-based rich text editor used in care notes and care plans has limited screen reader support for some toolbar controls.

Regulatory Context

Babiha's accessibility commitments are informed by the following frameworks:

  • Equality Act 2010 — We have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure disabled users are not put at a substantial disadvantage when using our service.
  • NHS Accessible Information Standard (AIS) — As a platform serving NHS-connected care agencies, we align with the AIS requirements for accessible communication and information.
  • Digital Technology Assessment Criteria (DTAC) — We work towards DTAC compliance, which includes the accessibility criteria set by NHS England for digital health tools.

Last Audit

The most recent accessibility audit of the Babiha platform was conducted in March 2026. This statement was last reviewed and updated on 2 July 2026. Audits are performed at least annually and following significant feature releases.
